Challenge Recap: Arm the Flag

You might know the fine folks from Arm The Flag more from their machinima than from their matchmaking. But as we returned from our summer challenge hiatus we knew that this match up wasn’t going to be with pampered movie stars. Arm The Flag asked us if we felt lucky, and then showed us why they are not punks.

Game 1 Slayer BRs on The Pit to 100:

Slayer on the Pit is always a nice, standard matchup to get two teams rolling. This tense game kept both teams within a few kills of each other, the lead passed back and forth as each team attempted to hold their side of the map. Trips into enemy territory could result in a glorious triple kill or being teamshot to death in a second. But one final rocket nabbed ATF the lead and the win. AtF wins 100-92.Good game.

Our Side / Their Side

Game 2 Multi-Flag CTF on Standoff:

ATF employed one brutally effective strategy that won the game…they just kept coming. Every door was opened, every vehicle was employed, every man was on strike, and it did not let up. Unable to turn back the constant tide we were flooded with foes and they were flush in flags. AtF wins 3-0. Good game.

Endless Rushing

Game 3 One Bomb on High Ground:

While we couldn’t pull out a win, this time our defense was tighter and our lessons learned. Endless rushing by ATF did eventually land them the lone score, but our team shooting and tight defense kept them at bay for most of the game. Only in the last moments did they outslay our disarm attempts and score the game winning bomb. AtF wins 1-0. Good game.

No Gate For You

Game 4 One-Flag on Ghost Town:

Our only tie game came on a map and gametype known for ties. Defending Ghost Town is a brutal task…the flag is easily moved a few feet at a time to muscle it in for a score. Our defense did a fantastic job holding wave after wave of ATF attacks, stopping and returning flag after flag, often holding ATF off until the final seconds of each round. Our offense managed nice coordinated rushes to capture our flags in neat, quick order. The game was a tie, but also a good lesson in how to really make Ghost Town work. Tie Game 2-2. Good game.

Brute Force

Game 5 Team Slayer BRs on Avalanche to 100:

In our final slayer game TTL claimed every vehicle on the map with a loud “MINE!” and then proceeded to employ our own endless wave of attacks with turrets, plasma fire, and splatters. Our one decisive victory came thanks to a fleet of vehicles rolling together to cover each other’s backs and take down ATF one by one by one. ATF had a few good rebounds, rallying to take down some of our fleet. But with splaser control and vehicle domination TTL controlled the land and the sky. TTL wins 100-84. Good game.

Vehicle FTW

Do not underestimate these machinimakers. They may be movie stars playing soldiers, but when the props are exchanged for real guns then they’re just as deadly. Fortunately they’re also a bunch of really nice guys, so when the credits roll you’ll be smiling!
