Challenge Recap: Clan of Bobs

cobOn Sunday November 19th, The Gunslingers had the pleasure of facing off with the Clan of Bobs in a recreational battle. Who is Clan of Bobs you say? Well you may have heard of www.halowiki.net, a place where one can find limitless information pertaining to Halo 2 gameplay. These are the guys who started it all, and have proudly built quite a following. I would advise bookmarking this one folks, I can promise you won’t find yourselves disappointed. CoB Pez has been a friend to TTL for some time, and has also posted up a challenge recap at their site.

As usual, each clan selected two gametypes, as well as a final map to play slayer in case a tie breaker was needed. TTL Fate and Los Jacklos were alos able to provide some nice video recaps of each game.
Game 1 (Video here)

This first game was a CoB choice, and is known as Zero vs Bobs 2. The game is a KOTH variant to 3:00 on Lockout with snipers and shotties at start.

Right from the start, we knew the Bobs meant business. They took us by surprise with some great objective tactics, leaving a few snipers placed around the map while sending the rest of the them into the hill. I will never forget seeing a slew of Bobs hopping into the center from sniper tower and watching as we desperately tried to take them all out. Eventually they all fell, but not before racking up massive time for their team. We began acquiring some time ourselves, but the Bobs simply outplayed us. Whenever we had established dominance on the map, they would send out a shotty team to clear us out. Once again the hill began filling with more Bobs than a 20′s fashion convention. The Gunslingers weren’t able to stop the Bobs and the game ended at the 3:00 capoff.

The second game was a TTL choice on Relic called Blitzkrieg CTF. This game is simply six grueling 1:00 rounds of standard offense/defence CTF.

This gametype was a blast, and the key was to try and score as quickly as possible. If the first attempt failed, the only other option was to contest, contest, contest! The Gunslingers’ first round started with a quick strike to the side of the tower, and was quickly foiled by the Bobs’ iron defence. Our only option after that was to contest for nearly a full minute until we finally pushed that flag from it’s resting postion 30 feet up. The Bobs came in strong during their offensive rounds, but our lines held as the timer slowly ticked down to zero. Our second round, we rushed the Covenant sniper and sent a hog to rush from behind. After some amazing driving, and a little luck, we again tossed the flag from it’s coveted position, giving The Gunslingers a 2-point lead. The last rounds were all about defense, and both teams proved they could put that Relic on lockdown.

Game 3 (Video here)

Game 3 was CoB’s second pick, and was yet another CTF game. This however, was Neutral Flag on Colossus with sniper rifles at start.

Going into this game we had already learned first hand how tough the Bobs were during sniper objective based gametypes. We split our team up into two different groups. The first dedicated to taking out enemy snipers, while the others charged in and tried to steal that sought after white flag. This was fast paced, and I think I honestly spent more time in respawn than I actually did on the field. Sniper fire arced back and forth across the map, and bodies littered the floor like confetti at a New Year’s Eve gala. The trick to this one was to have someone setup at the flag spawn when you were in scoring position. While that looked great on paper, it was often difficult to implement with 8 sniper rounds directed at your face. Both teams played outstanding however, and managed to get the flag back home. Gunslingers ended this one, getting the required 5 flags to win.
